Telemundo Recognition — Sustainable Art Feature
On May 2, 2024, Telemundo dedicated a report to Colombian-born sculptor Felipe Lopez, now based in Tampa, for his unique approach to sustainable art. The feature showcased several of his most iconic works, including the Tampa Rhinoceros, the Lion forged from melted crime guns, and a series of animal sculptures created entirely from recyclable materials. With more than 15 years of experience, Lopez has developed a distinctive style that blends surrealism with a contemporary vision. His work reflects both his technical mastery and his commitment to environmental awareness, transforming discarded metals into artworks that tell stories of resilience, culture, and transformation. Among the highlighted pieces was African Dance, a sculpture inspired by African cultural heritage and shaped in collaboration with his wife, architect and artist Daphnee Arielle Stowers. Their partnership continues to push the boundaries of creativity and expand the depth of Lopez’s practice. The report also emphasized Lopez’s growing presence in the artistic community, citing his participation in the Gasparilla Art Festival, his public lectures on sculpture and sustainability, and his commemorative work honoring Officer Jesse Madsen. As he prepared for his upcoming exhibition at the National Sculpture Society, Telemundo underscored Lopez’s role as a cultural voice redefining how recycled materials can embody both artistry and environmental responsibility.
